Confessions of a Shopaholic

It’s long over-due that I write about this series since I’ve blogged about Sophie Kinsella’s standalone works; now it’s time I talk about her internationally acclaimed series – The Confessions of a Shopaholic (a.k.a. The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic).

The Book Cover for “Confessions of a Shopaholic”

This book was suggested to me by my friend from high school. She knew I loved books and fashion so she said I would really enjoy this book. And I actually really did! I know I’ve praised Kinsella many times for her excellent writing but I can’t help it! The way she writes is like you’re really inside the mind of the character she created. You would know how her mind works and how sometimes, what she does is different from what she’s thinking about. It’s hilarious!

The story of the Shopaholic series is about Rebecca Bloomwood (Becky, for short), a girl in debt. But she can’t help it. When she goes into a store (or even just passes by it), she is pulled in by an intense desire to buy things; useless and overpriced things usually. The irony of it all is that she’s a financial journalist and yet she’s buried in debt. So, in the first book (which I shall be talking about today), she meets this guy at a seminar and asks $20 dollars from him because she’s short on cash to buy the scarf she saw at a store before coming to the seminar. And that’s when her story begins; it gets funnier as the story progresses and no matter how annoying Becky’s impulses are, she is so lovable.

I will tell you all about the other books some other day. For now, I have to go and make another post! 🙂
